Scheffer’s husband contacted Jefferson City police, expressing his belief that his spouse had been intentionally poisoning him for over six weeks. The victim described eight instances where food and beverages provided by Scheffer had an unusual taste, resulting in extreme fatigue, confusion, blurred vision, severe cottonmouth, and nausea.

The situation escalated on January 1st when the husband confronted Scheffer about a bitter-tasting beverage. In a bizarre twist, she initially claimed to have urinated in it, later confessing to adding an industrial-strength adhesive. Subsequently, the husband installed a hidden surveillance camera, capturing a disturbing scene – Scheffer allegedly adding a toxic plant, identified as “lily of the valley,” to his smoothie.

The smoothie revelation took a dark turn as the lily of the valley was identified as a toxic substance. This plant is known to contain numerous cardiac glycosides, which can slow down the heart and cause irregular heart rhythms. Authorities seized the smoothie for testing, highlighting the severity of the alleged poisoning attempt.

When questioned by police, Scheffer reportedly admitted to deliberately adding lily of the valley to the blender to cause harm to her husband. Shockingly, she acknowledged being aware that ingesting this plant could potentially lead to death. This admission of guilt adds a chilling layer to the unfolding narrative.

Scheffer now faces serious charges, including first-degree attempted murder and armed criminal action. Concerns about her potentially fleeing justice arose as she reportedly mentioned a connection with someone in Pakistan and searched for flights to the country. These factors contributed to her being held on a no-bond arrest warrant at the Cole County Jail.

Sarah Scheffer, a design and art teacher at Calvary Lutheran High School in Jefferson City, is experiencing the fallout from her alleged actions. Her arrest prompted the school to place her on leave, emphasizing that the alleged conduct was outside her association with the school and did not involve students or other personnel. Her removal from the school’s online faculty page further underscores the severity of the situation.
