Rodrigo Ventocilla Ventosilla who was a trans activist who resided in Peru has recently perished in the custody of police in Bali on the Indonesian island. On Thursday, 25th August 2022, local officers released a statement rejecting their engagement in his demise of him. As per the reports, Rodrigo was a student of graduation and was studying at Harvard University. The media publication wrote that “Ventocilla who was a transgender man and an important trans activist for their rights, was declared dead 5 days after he was arrested for claimed drug possession when he arrived in Bali.” The publication further added that “The late trans activist was travelling on a honeymoon vacation along with his wife.

His passing news is also confirmed by the Twitter account of Astraea Foundation who also paid tribute to him and asked for justice for him. The tweet reads that “At Astraea, we would like to honour the memory of Rodrigo Ventocilla, Peruvian trans activist and founder of our grantee partner Diversidades Trans Masculinas. We express our solidarity and ask for justice for Rodrigo who passed away in an act of transphobic violence.” As per the reports, the 32-years-old, Ventocilla was detained at the start of this month at the airport of Bali for what local cops stated was carrying cannabis paraphernalia and the possession of drugs.

The family of Ventocilla stated that their son was badly treated in the prison, and passed away due to the violence of police, transphobia and racial discrimination.” The family of the deceased also took aim at the consular services of Peru in Indonesia, which they stated did nothing to aid his wife named Sebastian Marallano, as he look to free her husband from the custody of the police but later on she learnt about his passing.
