Janiya Armstrong was born on March 12, 2006, in Tupelo, Mississippi, and grew up in the close-knit community of Guntown. She was never an average girl in her childhood and always performed well in her academics as well as in the athletic field and proved her talent since then it was clear that she’d have a bright career ahead.

Janiya’s passion for volleyball ignited during her freshman year at Saltillo High School when she joined the women’s varsity team. Her role as an outside hitter and setter showcased her exceptional skills, including speed, power, and technique. Her contributions led her team to numerous victories and championships, earning her accolades such as the Lee County Tournament MVP and a spot on the All-District First Team.

On September 16, 2023, tragedy struck when Janiya was shopping for Halloween costumes with her family at the Spirit Halloween Store in El Cajon, California. Without warning, she collapsed suddenly, sending shockwaves through her loved ones. Rushed to the hospital, Janiya was pronounced dead, leaving her family, friends, coaches, and community in mourning.
