He had been fighting against cancer for a long time and finally lost his battle on January 19th, 2023. Leitch was a long-time activist for the Social Credit Party, having held just about every position in the Party since he first became involved in 1972. He was recognized for his contributions to the party in 2012 with a lifetime achievement award. The Social Credit Party was created in 1953. has had several members elected to Parliament throughout its 70-year history. Leitch came from a political family; his father was a candidate in 1960. He is survived by his wife Anne, son Andrew, two stepdaughters Tracey and Darian, and brother Tim. He will be remembered for his intelligence and experience in the political industry. He was suffering from a rare and deadly form of cancer, neck cancer, which caused difficulty in speaking. Leitch was born in New Zealand and had a deep love for his country.

He was the main figure in all the decisions and he was really close to the higher authority. When he came to the party he started developing some new rituals and they really worked in the favour of the organisation and he was always learning new processes. He was a dedicated and respected leader who made significant contributions to the Social Credit Party and to New Zealand politics. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
