Who Was Joyce Grable?

Grable started her wrestling career in 1971, and she was very popular in women’s wrestling during her time. Joyce Grable’s journey into the world of professional wrestling began with training under the legendary Lillian Ellison, known as Fabulous Moolah. 

Career

Joyce Grable entered the wrestling scene as the second wrestler to assume the name of Joyce Grable. Barbara Nichols had previously performed under the same moniker. Grable quickly made a name for herself as a well-traveled performer,

Showcasing her talents in various wrestling territories. Her career took her to Jim Crockett Promotions, AWA, WWC in Puerto Rico, Central States, Championship Wrestling from Florida, and Portland, among others.

One of the remarkable aspects of Grable’s career was her involvement in the development of other wrestling talents. Grable also had a hand in the training of her future tag team partner, Wendi Richter.

Tag Team Behind Her Success And Championships

Joyce Grable found considerable success in tag team wrestling throughout her career. She teamed up with Vicki Williams, and together they clinched the NWA Women’s Tag Team titles not once, but three times.

Their victories included defeating formidable opponents like Donna Christantello, Toni Rose, Leilani Kai, and Judy Martin. However, it was her partnership with Wendi Richter that truly made waves in the wrestling world. Together, they formed the dynamic duo known as the “Texas Cowgirls.” 

Joyce Grable: Memorable Moments

Joyce Grable’s career was punctuated by memorable moments, including a unique “Battle of the Sexes” match at The Omni in Atlanta on November 27, 1980. In this match, she and Judy Martin teamed up but faced defeat against Steve O and Jacques Rougeau Jr., providing fans with an unforgettable spectacle.

Grable’s wrestling journey also took her to All Japan Women, where she participated in a tour in 1981. She even had stints in the WWE from 1979 through 1983, including several matches at the iconic Madison Square Garden.

Legacy And Later Years

Joyce Grable’s wrestling career eventually wound down by 1987, leading to her retirement in 1991. She faced a battle with cancer a decade ago, displaying her resilience both in and out of the ring.

Throughout the years, Grable remained connected to the wrestling community, making regular appearances at Gulf Coast reunions and signing autographs for fans.
